SLSU's Revised REPDI Manual
The 2021 REPDI Manual of Operations is a general reference to the various guidelines, processes, and procedures that govern the conduct of research, extension, production, development, and innovation programs at the Southern Luzon State University.
SLSU IP Policy
Scholarly activities create Intellectual Property (IP) that will be disseminated in the most efficient and effective manner. Hence, the SLSU Intellectual Property Policy (IPP) shall provide the rationale and the mechanisms to establish ownership criteria and resolve ownership questions, if such arise, and it shall define the responsibilities, rights, and privileges of those involved in IP production and development. The IPP covers all research and other academic activities, as well as tangible research outputs whether for commercial or non-commercial purpose undertaken using any resource of SLSU. Specifically, the IPP deals with the following types of IP:
patents
copyrights
trade and service marks
trade secrets
trade names
new plant varieties
geographical indications
industrial design
utility models
A Primer on Academic Publishing
This primer is produced to inform novice and remind seasoned researchers alike on essential points about academic publishing. It discusses the reasons why academic publishing is important and the types of academic publications that are valued in academic institutions. Citing the significant increase in predatory journal publishing, this primer focused on journal publications detailing key points about where to, where not to, and how to publish.
While aimed to be applicable to as many authors as possible across disciplines, this primer should, however, not be treated as a definitive guide that must be strictly followed. No two publishers or journals are the same, nor are the experience of authors submitting to specific publications across disciplines. When finding the right publication for your work, and if you are still in doubt, it is always best to consult respected scholars who are widely published in your field. Other Reputable Publications
While we highly encourage our researchers to publish their work in reputable journals, other avenues for publication of research outputs include the following:
Monograph Series/ Scholarly Monograph/ Research Book
"Research monographs can be reformatted editions of dissertations, theses, or other significant research reports. Monographs are published by university presses and commercial scholarly publishers. A point of difference is that authors may get a royalty payment for monographs, whereas for most other research dissemination, such as journal articles and conference papers, authors do not receive direct payment. As a commercial work, a monograph will typically be edited to be readable to a more general or specific audience, depending on to whom the publisher will be marketing the book. The readership of a research monograph will likely be individuals with varying levels of expertise in the field, ranging from students to academics, practitioners to lay people. When writing, you can assume the reader will have some interest in the topic, but he or she may not have much background in the field. Research monographs are usually peer-reviewed." (Kenan & Thompson 2018, emphases ours)
Examples: UP CIDS Public Policy Monograph Series; Philippine Social Science Council
Edited Volume
a collection of scholarly or scientific papers published as chapters by individual or group of authors, edited by the volume editor/s. Papers in edited volumes are original articles and are peer reviewed prior to publication. Some of the key publishers of edited volumes include Routledge, SAGE, Springer, University Presses, etc.
Refereed Conference Proceedings
a publication that came out of a highly specialized research conference whose full papers are reviewed first by technical experts before being accepted for presentation and included in the conference proceeding. If SLSU researchers intend to publish their presented paper in a conference proceeding, it is highly suggested that they do so in conference proceedings indexed by Scopus.
Publications and Publishers to be avoided
Journals and publishers that appear on this list are considered to have questionable reputation because they do not adhere to the highest standards of quality and ethics in academic publishing. SLSU researchers are strongly advised to avoid publishing their work on these journals and publishers.
